Using Barbie in a sick and twisted way to comment on society is pretty genius, especially when think about how sick and twisted Barbie and her makers actually are. Creating this image of a skinny girl that is so-called perfect for little girls to idolize is one of the major problems in our society. This also reminds me of the campaign done that shows Barbie in lifesize proportions to show girls how far off the Matel company is in creating her perfect image.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/galia-slayen/the-scary-reality-of-a-re_b_845239.htmljgarnethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16646484728095625609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4351149635592475082.post-56581792098895490822012-03-15T14:01:55.951-07:002012-03-15T14:01:55.951-07:00I think Mariel's stance on feminism is extreme...I think Mariel's stance on feminism is extremely interesting; one would think that anyone using Barbie as a media for art would be a feminist. Instead, her goal seems to be making social commentary about society in a clever and twistedly amusing way. This aspect is where I think Mariel's creativity can best be seen. Many people create art that comments on the pitfalls of society, but her use of such a beloved childhood toy commands people's attention and truly makes them think. No one is going to listen to what you have to say if you don't say it in a stimulating way. Her dioramas certainly stimulate the viewer, and thus her artistic creativity holds potential for real thought to take place.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02123146547941697294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4351149635592475082.post-23858317396706099202012-03-12T13:28:56.382-07:002012-03-12T13:28:56.382-07:00I think this is super interesting and never would ...I think this is super interesting and never would have thought to create art using scenes you make with a Barbie. I would agree with the creepy factor, but I also would agree with the fact although its somewhat unsettling it is still creative. This artist is using a certainly novel idea to solve the issue of expressing her feelings about society. This is an important outlet for everyone to discover and she just happens to have found the very creative avenue of photographing Barbies. This is by no means going to change the world, but it helped this artist to understand and deal with the world in a healthy (maybe questionable) way. Therefore this would be a good example of a little c.CassieBatzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04378137287239128106noreply@blogger.com
