J.K. Rowling- more than magic and
muggles
Anyone
who has ever spoken to me for five minutes or less, or who has simply walked
behind me on a day warm enough to wear shorts and sees my tattoo, will know
that I am unapologetically obsessed with Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling, the famous
mastermind behind the greatest story ever written, is surprisingly responsible
for many more creative projects, with and without the inclusion of magic.
After
the Harry Potter series was completed and the eighth and final movie was
released, so many fans were crushed, not wanting the story to end. Rowling
answered. She co-wrote a screen play called Harry
Potter and the Curse Child, now a live Broadway show, based on the life of
Harry Potter’s son Albus Severus Potter.

She
has also written several spin off books briefly mentioned in the Harry Potter
series and the profits from these stories were given directly to charity, one
of which Rowling founded herself to help children. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a textbook that the
characters of Harry Potter were required to have for schooling. Rowling then
wrote an entire screen play based off of the writing of this fictional textbook
that later became a FANTASTIC movie. There is nothing this woman cannot magically
produce.
With
her continued magical influence and creativity, Rowling helped to create a
Harry Potter fan website called Pottermore
that has been up and running since 2012.
It is extremely involved and includes many online quizzes matching the fan
to characters, spells, and houses within the famous magical school of Hogwarts.
The site also includes a virtual read-a-long book club that allows readers to
interact with others from across the globe, all while following along with the
same Harry Potter book. I am embarrassed to say that I have spent far too much
time on this site.
In
the more recent years, Rowling has left the magic at Hogwarts and written a
book about unrest in the government of a very small town. I am currently
reading this book so there are no *spoiler alerts* ahead. It is a long
adult novel, unlike her child-like focus in the magical stories.
One
of my favorite things about J.K Rowling is that she has also written several
crime novels under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Her immense fame has not
stopped her writing and although many (most) of her stories are made into
movies or TV miniseries, she continually strives to continually be creative,
not only in the stories that she writes, magical and non, but also in how she
presents the stories, most recently under a name of a man that is obviously not
her. If you don’t feel some sense of magic when reading anything of J.K.
Rowling’s, I truly feel sad for you.
I think it's pretty cool that even after the world of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling has continued to create new works. Writing a screenplay for a book that was mentioned IN the Harry Potter series must be a dream come true for fans all over the world. I wonder if she will ever stop adding to the magic of Harry Potter. Despite her new projects, this seems like a creation she can never step away from.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading Harry Potter as a kid for the first time and being utterly convinced that magic MUST be real because there's no way someone could come up with an entirely different world in their head. She has an unreal abundance of creativity and I'm so grateful I've had the privilege of reading her books!
