Taylor Swift

     Taylor Swift has been one of the more influential performers of our generation: whether one enjoys her music or not, it is undeniable the impact she has had on the music industry and how her creativity in preforming has catapulted her name into a discussion of the greats of our generation. Taylor Swift has been preforming since she was only 11 years old. Twenty two years later, 10 albums, countless awards and hundreds of performances later, Swift has developed into the creative musician that she is. Swift has had a variety of phases and "eras" throughout her career: her creativity has allowed her to remain relevant to all of her stages of life. She has transitioned from writing songs regarding love, grief, respect, success, failure and growth. Through expressing these feelings, Swift puts into words every feeling she experienced through this journey with her mother, without defining it in strict terms. Despite this, in her process of creativity, she was able to write a song faster than most, but struggles to perform it live. She captured the feelings so rawly, that Swift rarely sings this song to her fans. She has rerecorded albums, written new songs, edited and reproduced songs from decades prior. One of her more creative products and works took place on her album Lover. 

    Based on the name, one can assume this album had to do with just what the title portrayed: romantic love. While many of the songs on the album did highlight and showcase this type of love, Swift also found a way to expand the meaning and perception of what the album meant to capture. One song in particular, "Soon You'll Get Better", tells the story of the love and fear of potentially losing a parent, and the struggle to remain strong. Swift uses the creativity to express these real emotions through music and on an album dedicated to healing and peace, is able to capture opposite emotions and marry them into one. 

    This relates to "We Flew Over the Bridge" in the method of using art to express complicated, unexplainable parental relationships. Ringgold saw much of her parents relationship and their methods of raising their children from her child perspective: through art and story telling, she is able to convey these feelings and emotions without using defining words.
